Energy industry effects of sector coupling – Energy requirements (German report)

Zwischenbericht 07/2021

The report describes the additional electricity requirements for the transport sector that can be expected as a result of the switch to alternative drive systems and fuels. For this purpose, the energy requirements for electricity and the production of hydrogen and power to liquid are included. In 2030, additional electricity demand of 105.5 TWh is expected for the transport sector. This assumes domestically generated renewable energy. In order to thus reduce CO2 emissions from the transport sector, the share of renewable energies in the German electricity mix must be increased. In addition, renewable electricity should be used as efficiently as possible.
